Child Injury Prevention Foundation of New Zealand - CIPFNZ (formerly known as the Child Accident Prevention Foundation of New Zealand - CAPFNZ)
The Child Injury Prevention Foundation wishes to award a number of student scholarships for the forthcoming summer break. Projects must relate in some way to child injury prevention (intentional or unintentional) and preference will be given to those that will be of immediate practical benefit to the community.
The scholarships are open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The scope for projects is extremely wide, and includes such possibilities as:
Re: Unintentional Injuries (child accidents)
· the design of a practical counter-measure to a recognised hazard
· field testing of a specific hypothesis
· preparation of educational material for use by children
· literature reviews
· critical analysis of existing prevention strategies (including legislative provisions)
· critical reviews of childhood unintentional injury campaigns
· critical analysis of media reporting of childhood unintentional injuries
· analysis of the role of the environment in childhood unintentional injuries
Re: Intentional Injuries (child abuse)
· literature reviews
· critical analysis of existing prevention strategies
· critical analysis of current relevant legislation
· critical analysis of media coverage of child abuse cases
· analysis of causal factors
· field testing of a specific hypothesis
