On average two children die from an unintentional injury every week, and every day an average classroom full of children are injured severely enough to be admitted to hospital.

Services and ProgrammesThe good news is that unintentional injuries are often preventable.

As the recognised experts in unintentional child injury prevention, Safekids New Zealand provides valuable information, services and advice to government agencies, territorial authorities, Well Child providers, health professionals, private industry, media, educators and families.

  • Advocacy - Safekids New Zealand produces fact sheets, position papers and presentations to help inform and guide decision makers, media, community organisations and individuals who seek to improve polices and practices that will contribute to reducing the incidence of unintentional injury to children.
  • Safekids Campaigns - A national child injury prevention, capacity building and public awareness programme, the Safekids Campaign aims to strengthen partners, coalitions, communities, families, Whanau and like-minded individuals in working together towards a common goal.
  • The Information and Resource Centre - We operate the world’s most comprehensive and up-to-date library of information and resources on unintentional child injury issues, child injury prevention strategies, programmes, research and initiatives for researchers, community injury prevention workers, health professionals, educators and the media.
For parents and caregivers, we also offer a range of safety information on preventing unintentional child injuries. Safekids New Zealand uses the Spectrum of Prevention Model to develop, implement and evaluate its child injury-prevention work.
